Alberta Residence Driveway
Surface: Exposed Aggregate Concrete | Products Used: Premium Impregnating Sealer, Alkaline Cleaner Completed: August 2013
Applicator: Stacey Eklund | website: www.uniquesealingsolutions.ca
THE PROJECT:
This 600sq. ft. driveway is made from exposed aggregate concrete, a mixture commonly used on driveways and patios. The client asked Unique Sealing Solutions to remove existing stains, color the concrete and protect it from staining and efflorescence.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Remove existing stains. Recolor to the client’s specification. Protect with a permanent sealer which would not alter the new color or slip resistance.
THE STAIN-PROOF® SOLUTION:
Unique Sealing Solutions soaked the driveway with STAIN-PROOF Alkaline Cleaner, formerly known as OXY-KLENZA™, for 30 minutes to break down stains and grime, followed by a light scrub and then rinsed with a pressure hose. Bleach marks were removed with a mild acidic etching agent. Once perfectly clean and dry, a stain was used to bring the color up to the owner’s specification. After allowing 5 days for the stain to cure fully, two coats of STAIN-PROOF Premium Impregnating Sealer, formerly known as STAIN-PROOF Original™, were applied 15 to 20 minutes apart. After allowing the Premium Impregnating Sealer to cure inside the concrete, and push out any residual salts, a stiff bristle deck scrubber was used dry to brush off the salts before they cured and hardened.
STAIN-PROOF Alkaline Cleaner is a powerful oxygen and alkaline cleaner for tough, dried-in stains and soiling, including grease, grime, and stains caused by mould, algae and leaf marks. It is designed for most hard, porous building materials, including naturalstone, tile, masonry, slate, concrete, grout, vinyl and unfinished wood. Premium Impregnating Sealer makes the treated surface permanently oil and water repellent, so that spills remain up on the surface, where they can be easily mopped off. Premium Impregnating Sealer doesn’t change the appearance of the surface, and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Premium Impregnating Sealer will cure enough in 2 to 3 hours for the surfaces to be used, and in 8 to 10 hours will repel reasonably well. This will continue to improve over approximately 4 weeks as more of the sealer bonds inside the material. A 15-YEAR PERFORMANCE WARRANTY is offered when Premium Impregnating Sealer product applied by a STAIN-PROOF Accredited Applicator following our written instructions, and surface is maintained regularly using our recommended maintenance system.
