THE PROJECT:

Blakehurst is a suburb south of Sydney, situated on the banks of the Georges River. The owners of the beautiful Blakehurst home had just finished renovating their backyard and were in need of permanent protection for their granite tiles around a saltwater pool and backyard, as well as the patio. Simon from Bailey Trade Services was tasked to seal 240m² (2400 sq ft) of honed granite.

The sealer had to provide excellent stain protection, be long lasting and kept the look of the granite. It also had to protect against efflorescence and the coastal winds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Excellent water and oil-based stain protection
• Keep the natural look of the stone
• Treatment had to protect against efflorescence and salt spalling, especially from the coastal winds
• Protection had to be long lasting

THE STAIN-PROOF^® SOLUTION:

To fulfil all the above requirements, Simon used STAIN-PROOF 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent, formerly known as DRY-TREAT 40SK™, around the saltwater pool and STAIN-PROOF Premium Impregnating Sealer, previously STAIN-PROOF Original™, for the rest of the area.

As the residence is located on the bank of Georges River, it is necessary to have a deep water repelling barrier to protect the granite from efflorescence and salt-spalling (salt attack).

40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent is generally used for softer, more porous materials such as limestone, sandstone and travertine especially around a saltwater pool. In this case 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent was chosen because oil repellence was not deemed necessary around the pool. 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent provides a deep permanent water-repelling barrier and is more economical to use than Premium Impregnating Sealer.

We normally do not recommend 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent on granite as the consolidator will have trouble penetrating through denser materials. A test should always be conducted on any and every sealing job in a small, conspicuous area. In this instance, the test showed that the material was able to absorb 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent.

Premium Impregnating Sealer was used for the rest of the backyard and patio. The owners of the house want premium water and oil-based stain protection as the backyard will be used as an entertaining area. Also with a child/children in the household, there will be a high chance of foodstuff being dropped on the surface. Premium Impregnating Sealer penetrates deep into the material to provide long lasting protection against efflorescence and salt spalling (salt attack).

Premium Impregnating Sealer and D40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent do not change the look of the material. For a wet look as well as excellent water and oil-based stain protection, use STAIN-PROOF Color Enhancing Sealer, formerly known as Dry-Treat INTENSIFIA™.

Both Premium Impregnating Sealerand 40SK Consolidator & Water Repellent come with a15-year Warranty if the product is applied by a STAIN-PROOF Accredited Applicator.
