THE PROJECT:

Sefton, a small residential suburb in Sydney’s inner-west, provides a train station on the Inner West railway line of the Sydney CityRail network. Clustered around the train station are fruit shops, a pharmacy, a gunsmith, a funeral parlour, several residential blocks. The station has a simple island platform, but is a high-traffic area during peak hours, late nights and weekends.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The client had a number of special requirements for this high traffic public site:

 With approximately 400m2 of Sandstone, careful consideration was needed to not only seal the historic train station, but to also maintain its rustic aesthetic. There were a number of prerequisites for choosing the sealer for this project:  

• Longevity – because such a high-traffic environment would lead to costly and disruptive re-application.
• The look of the historic site had to be maintained.
• With thousands of people using the station, slip resistance could not be compromised.
• Sealed surfaces should be easier to maintain and clean and must withstand commercial alkaline cleaning chemicals and pressure washing.
