THE PROJECT:

The approximately 3,000 square foot rear patio and stairs of this Tucson residence had Stepstone, Inc. - Cal Arch Almond Pavers installed as part of a new build project. The owner requested the pavers were sealed with STAIN-PROOF Premium Impregnating Sealer, formerly known as STAIN-PROOF Original™, per the manufacturer’s recommendations. This was done to protect the surface from efflorescence and future staining.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Sealer must have a significantly long lifespan in the high heat and high UV ray desert climate
• Superior stain protection
• Protects the surface from efflorescence
• Treated surfaces must become easier to clean and stay looking good for longer
• Must retain the natural look and finish of the surface

THE STAIN-PROOF^® SOLUTION:

The pavers had some preexisting stains that occurred during fabrication or transit, so Dr. Clean spot treated the individual stains with STAIN-PROOF Alkaline Cleaner, formerly known as OXY-KLENZA™, and the entire surface was pressure washed. Alkaline Cleaner is a powerful oxygen and alkaline cleaner for tough, dried-in stains and soiling, including grease, grime, and stains caused by mold, algae and leaf marks. To remove stubborn marks/stains, Alkaline Cleaner can be used as an open or closed poultice treatment. It is important to remove preexisting stains prior to sealing because the surface will repel water after sealing, making removing said stains more difficult.

For the sealer, Premium Impregnating Sealer was chosen. Premium Impregnating Sealer’s unique sealing molecules are hundreds of times smaller than those in other impregnators. They are designed to penetrate deeper into the material and permanently bond with the material by means of chemical reaction. The sealer also does not break down in UV light and can withstand the high heat of Arizona.

Premium Impregnating Sealer provides premium water and oil repellence, protecting the surface from staining. The deep water and oil-repelling barrier also protects the surface from problems caused by water ingress such as efflorescence, salt spalling and freeze-thaw spalling. It does this by keeping the surface dry while preventing moisture from inside the materials to reach the surface. Best of all, Premium Impregnating Sealer is fully breathable, letting the trapped moisture escape as vapour thus keeping the material dry.

Premium Impregnating Sealer is an invisible, impregnating sealer. It does not change the look or finish of the surface. It also does not change the slip resistance of the material. Premium Impregnating Sealer can also withstand harsh chemicals and pressure washing, making cleaning easier.

Premium Impregnating Sealer comes with a written 15-year performance warranty when applied by an Accredited Applicator.
